Michigan’s GOP Senators are torturing the state’s working class by playing the waiting game on Medicaid expansion in another political hemming-and-hawing stunt designed to appease the Tea Party idiots that stand bullying to their right. They adjourned today without acting on legislation that would extend healthcare to the working poor, to the tune of 320,000 people next year and about a half million the following year, under provisions of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare.
Under intense pressure, the House grudgingly passed the expansion plan last week with about half the Republicans and all the Democrats on board. Normally, the House is the legislative kindergarten, but it seems the Senate is exploring thier inner toddler this week. They have two more days to collectively get their shit together and pass this important bill, which they predictably will, or risk being the butt of the joke on Comedy Central for the whole month of July.
Let’s not be under the illusion that the House is a body of functioning adults though. Today they introduced a resolution (HR 185 of 2013) to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Both bodies will enact a multitude of laws in a feeding frenzy on Thursday afternoon, then promptly get the f#*k-outta Dodge for the Summer.
Democracy Tree will be reporting their every misdeed. Stay tuned.
