BREAKING: Michigan GOP Law Banning Domestic Partner Benefits Blocked

images[2]Federal Judge David Lawson says the ACLU made a “plausible case” that the law passed last year to block school districts and municipalities from providing benefits to domestic partners is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

The law was viewed by many as more than just an ideological stand on the issue itself, but was seen as yet another attack on Michigan’s public sector.

A number of school districts, along with cities of Ann Arbor, East Lansing, and Kalamazoo, and Ingham and Washtenaw counties had offered such benefits.
